An Evening of Awesome @ Carnegie Hall with John & Hank Green

P1000313Carnegie Hall – the sound in here is pretty amazing.

I’ve been avidly following The Lizzie Bennet Diaries for a long time now and I got my husband watching the series too. Through Lizzie Bennet he got hooked on the vlogbrothers, read Looking For Alaska, and then promptly bought us two tickets to An Evening of Awesome on the day they went on sale.

I am very pleased with what I have wrought.

We had some nice seats (row K in the main pavilion), and we both had a lovely time. I took a lot of pictures, but the low light, no flash rule, and distance with my little camera made for a lot of blurry shots. I still got a couple of nice ones though, so I’m going to post them here.

Yay! So was this evening awesome? Yes. Very geeky in a good way: different, overlapping kinds of geekery in a big fun show. πŸ™‚

If you missed the show, it’s all online on youtube here.

  1. That’s so fantastic that you got to go to the Carnegie Hall event! I saw John and Hank when they stopped in Portland last year and it was pretty phenomenal–as much for the show as the audience and their enthusiasm.

  2. I was about to die of jealousy (and awe) but you say it’s all online? *runs to Youtube*

Thanks for the awesome recap. I can’t wait to hear Lizzie and Darcy read from TFioS.

    • Yup, all online. I think they were streaming it and the stream was recorded for the vlogbrothers..?

People were very excited to see Lizzy and Darcy and Neil Gaiman and Kimya Dawson. They were the surprise last minute guests. The one I was really shocked by was Neil Gaiman. The other three were given away by an insert in our program! πŸ™‚

  3. I STILL need to watch LBD! I also sneakily got the bf reading and loving literature..we started with Harry Potter and then The Hunger Games and right now he is reading Seraphina!! A YA fantasy!! YESSS!! VICTORY IS MINE!! MUAH HAHAHA! Anyyywho….NEIL GAIMAN! I die. You are one lucky gal!

    • *high fives* – good job! Yes, you just need the right book to hook them and reel them in…muhahahahaa! I’m quite proud of getting him into Lizzie Bennet, and the other one that was a victory was when I got him into The Queen’s Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner. Hmm, Harry Potter and The Hunger Games and Seraphina – will have to try all of those. I also need to reel my sister into the reading thing – she will go to the library with me QUITE happily, but then goes to the arts and craft section.

I KNOW! NEIL GAIMAN! I couldn’t believe it.

    • ALSO: you really need to watch LBD! Just.. 5 eps at a time.. they’re so SHORT. Just a little bit. Just try it.. come join our obsession! *peer pressure, peer pressure*.

  4. I am SO addicted to the Lizzie Bennet Diaries! I’m super excited that Lizzie is at Pemberley Digital now, so she and Darcy are finally spending some time together. This looks like an amazing event; glad you were able to go!

    • ME TOO. There was a pause in watching when I went on vacation and didn’t have good internet for streaming videos, but when I got back I was only behind by 4 eps. πŸ™‚ Things are getting GOOD now that Lizzie is at Pemberly (Digital!).

I’m happy I went too. I’m not sure I would have bought tickets for myself, so I’m glad the Husband did. It was a lot of fun.

  5. Looks like you had an amazing time! Good job on influencing your husband to watch the LBD and then become addicted to the vlogbrothers. I should watch this online like Holly did.

    • Yes, I am proud of this! πŸ™‚ It sounds like a lot of people have watched the recorded show and enjoyed it, so if you weren’t there, it doesn’t mean you’ve missed it. All online, and I think they did a good job with the videography (zooming in to the right things). Which is awesome.

  6. Okay so I’ve admittedly been putting off looking at this post because I have been thoroughly KICKING MYSELF for not going to this!! I’m so ashamed…it’s one thing to wish you could have been there when it’s far far away, but it’s quite another to know that you totally had the option and just didn’t take it! So jealous, BUT I’m so excited that you had such a great time, and especially enthusiastic about the fact that you’ve roped your husband into the Green awesomeness. I really like the Mountain Goats, we both know I’m slightly obsessed with the LBD, and of course, Gaiman is one of my absolute favorite authors. Next time I won’t pass this up!

    • Don’t kick yourself! I think it would be much worse if they didn’t record it. The video on youtube means you miss nothing, and actually you probably get the best view because it has zoom which gives you detail that cannot be seen with regular human eyes sitting in the audience. But I do think that maybe this is the year we all go to Comic Con in NYC. I always kick myself for not going. *nods*.
